Rich & Poor

Recently I’m spending more time on Still Life painting and Anatomy study. Two weeks back I started teaching Still Life Painting, though I am at student level and still need to learn a lot. But after one or two classes I realize that I’m also learning a lot with them, maybe because I myself have to be more prepared and clear about Fundamentals of art before teaching others.

Girl with Oranges - Sold

My native place is Nagpur and it is very famous for its Oranges, there is an interesting story how the cultivation of Nagpur orange started. The cultivation of Nagpur orange was tested for the first time as a kitchen garden plant during 1896 by Late Shri. Raghujiraje Bhonsle and observed as a successful venture. Since then, its cultivation attained momentum year after year and by now, it is claimed to be one of the most remunerative potential foreign exchange earning crops of not only this region but also as one of the horticultural crops after mango and banana at national level.

So when season comes you can see that almost every house is field with Oranges and every person in the family contributes in sorting and packing Oranges before sending it to the main market. In my school days I have seen this scenario in most of the villages around Nagpur.

Kitchen Work

People and their life around me always inspired to take the subject for my paintings.

This is the subject I found at my home at the corner of my leaving room, light coming from window where dining table was kept, vegetables and pots were lying on the table and I thought it made a perfect scene for the painting.

Oil Sketch-03

Since long time I didn’t post any new painting on my blog. Last few weeks I was doing some Animation work to make my bread and butter and after that worked on one big painting which is almost in finishing stage which I’ll be posting it very soon. Working on big painting is completely different experience.

This is rough oil portrait of my wife which I did one and half week back but couldn’t post it. I finished this oil sketch almost in one hour. I was forced to do this quickly not because of I didn’t have time, or I want to see how fast I can paint but the main reason is that my wife doesn’t have patience to sit on one place for long time. In this one hour seating she almost took a 4 to 5 time break. There is no way I can think about using her as a model for my longer duration painting study.

Twins

Painting still life is a grrrrrreat fun!!!!  This is my first still life. I never tried painting still life before in my life. This came out decent but I’m happy with the result whatever it came out, and I’ll love to paint more still life in future.

Few days back I had brought some ceramic pots from handicraft exhibition thinking that using theme for still life painting. But after lying at the corner of my room for couple of days it started disappearing one by one, and I found them in my kitchen. My wife thought she will use them if I am not using for painting.

Finally I decided to paint them. Though this is my first still life so I tried to keep very simple composition using two oranges, cucumber with the pot, color scheme is warmer. I used Yellow, Orange and very little use of Ultramarine blue.
